HEADED DOWN SOUTH

Scott Thompson rallied the troops of RCG for a trip down south to visit his favorite Childhood Cave on Saturday March 22, 2025. After our arrival it was ceremoniously unlocked by the head forest ranger. However, Ms. Warner would not join us underground.

A fantastic trip- we had forgotten how nice this cave is to visit.

It had been years since I had visited this cave. So not knowing my way through the forest Scott sent a series of directional photos. They worked and I found the cave.

This was Zeric’s very first cave drop. The entrance is a bit snug but it does get bigger.

This cave had been vandalized in the early years. The Tampa Bay area Grotto and the Forest service installed a gate and started controlling access. This cave has recovered very nice and was an absolute joy to visit with many formations and nice passages.

This formation was like a stalagmite but had an open area on top with cave pearls and very small rim-stone damn on the side. Very unique and beautiful.

The group split and reformed several times, finding new passages and new things.

This was a great group and a lot of fun. It seems like every trip is the best-this one was.
